Big Hill Springs Provincial Park is an activity and sightseeing destination popular for waterfalls and hiking located northeast of the community of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada in the Southern Alberta region of Canada.
The Big Hill Springs Provincial Park measures about 32 hectares in size. The park was created to protect the sensitive eco system surrounding Big Hill Creek.
Big Hill Creek flows down a series of tiered rock walls creating waterfalls and tufa deposits (a limestone deposit formed from carbonate minerals in warm water).
The waterfalls are the main natural attraction in the park. And there are also two historic sites located in the park for viewing - an old creamery and fish hatchery.
The waterfalls are accessed best from the short 1.5 kilometre loop trail. The trail includes crossing over foot bridges and climbing up one gradual hill before reaching a viewpoint overlooking the waterfalls.
At the waterfall viewpoint there are some sightseeing benches for enjoying the natural attraction..
From the viewpoint the loop trail leads explorers back down some gradual switchbacks to the parking lot. The hiking route can get muddy and slippery at times. In moist conditions one should always bring good foot wear and bug spray.
Located near the parking lot and trailhead are some information signs, pit toilets, sitting benches and a day use picnic area with picnic tables.
