Emerson Lake is a recreation destination and day use park located in the community of High River, Alberta in the Southern Alberta Foothills of Canada.
Surrounding Emerson Lake is a short 1 kilometre recreation pathway. It is an easy going, level and paved pathway popular for all ages and fitness levels.
Most of the Emerson Lake pathway is exposed to the open sunshine. It is wise to bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen when planning some extended time in the park as shade can be minimal on a busy day. Shade is best near some of the sightseeing benches located off the beaten path.
The Emerson Lake pathway connects to the Happy Trails Pathway which explores the community of High River, Alberta, Canada east to west. Next to Emerson Lake the Happy Trails Pathway connects to another day use area called Sunshine Lake.
When visiting Emerson Lake there are people walking their dogs, jogging, roller blading, taking day strolls, picnicking and birdwatching. Some stay in the park while others continue exploring on the Happy Trails Pathway.
Birdwatching is popular near Emerson Lake. The lake pathway connects to a birdwatching platform in the park providing views of the lake and the local birding activity. Waterfowl visit the lake most often while song birds can be spotted in the nearby trees.
The pathway, the lake and the grass lawns are very well maintained around Emerson Lake. There are a few flower gardens adding color to the park and sightseeing benches for enjoying the views and activity.
Nearby is a playground popular for the young ones, a viewing platform fro birdwatching and some some picnic tables for packed lunches and group gatherings.
