Coal Banks Trail

Coal Banks Trail is a community recreation trail connecting parks, attractions and recreation facilities located in the community of Lethbridge, Alberta in the southern region of Alberta, Canada.

The Coal Banks Trail is a network of pathways measuring over 30+ kilometres long popular for walking, biking, jogging, roller blading and sightseeing. The trail system is very baby stroller and wheelchair friendly in many sections.

The Coal Banks Trail is considered an easy going, level recreation route with some hill climbing and sr airs leading in and out of the valley.

The pathway acts as a transportation route within the community of Lethbridge, Alberta connecting the Oldman River Valley with the east, west, north and south sectors of the city.

The Coal Banks Trail is an ideal way to sightsee the community providing many opportunities to visit with parks. Some of the parks accessed via the trail system are the Indian Battle, Lethbridge Nature Reserve, Nicholas Sheran, Botterill, Alexander Wilderness, Cottonwood, Elizabeth Hall and Pavan Parks.

The Coal Banks Trail is named after the original settlement which established roots on the banks of the Oldman River in the river valley. Coal Banks was once a mining town named after the black rocks in the valley called sik-okotoks by the Blackfoot First Nation people.
