Bison Buddy on Hwy #3 in NWT

In the NWT there are big distances between many of the communities. Communities connected by a very simple, paved and gravel, network of roads.  Allot of that road ends up on our jeeps and campers in the form of mud.

From Fort Simpson, we fueled up, took the river ferry and were back on the paved and gravel Mackenzie Hwy making our way  to the Canadian Shield and the capital of the Northwest Territory, Yellowknife.   Yellowknife is going to be our base camp for a few days while we explore and research.

Driving the gravel and paved Mackenzie Hwy we passed by wetlands, tundra, lakes and grasslands until we hooked up with Highway #3 which is the only road route leading to Yellowknife.  Highway #3 was paved and a nice change. It also passes through a Bison Wildlife Park.  And from what we know about Bison from our trip to the Yukon, we should be getting up close and personal with some of  them as they walk the highway.

Watching for wildlife on the highways is a big thing in Canada.  Please always pay attention.
