Alexandra Falls in Twin Falls Gorge Park, NWT
Spent some time in the small community of Hay River. Did what we needed to do for research and now we are heading to the Alberta and NWT border. The journey continues for the tourism road warriors.
On our way out from Hay River on the Waterfall Highway is the Twin Falls Gorge Park which includes two massive, powerful waterfalls and a connecting boardwalk trail with sitting benches, viewpoints, access ladders and ropes leading down to the waterfalls edge for the daring and willing.
The first waterfall we visited was Alexandra Falls. It was amazing, loud and mist was in the air. The water was a red and brown mixture because of the minerals in the water from the rock. The easy walking trail along the boardwalk leads to some good viewpoints and an access trail down to the Alexandra Falls.
We ventured down to the edge. It was so incredible being so close. The river above the waterfall was wide and looked harmless. The river below the waterfall was all white water and powerful. There is something about being so close to something so powerful.
Here is a picture from a lookout of the impressive Alexandra Falls. We explored to the edge. In the corner is a picture of Bro with a front row seat to the falls.
