Parting Ways in Prince Albert
New day. New Plan! Bro and I are going are separate ways again. Bro is the hare and taking the high road and bolting for Ontario to search out a winter writers retreat for us both. Someone has to secure our winter accommodations. Mmmm.. and I am hoping he scores a cabin on a lake near a ski hill! I could be aiming a bit high?
Me, I get to play turtle. I am going to zig zag my way across Saskatchewan and Manitoba slowly so I can collect all the data for our new websites. The journey should take me about 3-4 weeks and should take me to the most interesting areas of the provinces. I am looking forward to the adventure. Have to remind myself to slow down and enjoy it a bit more. So much to see and do it can get mind boggling.
So we said our good byes and off Bro went. I was going to start this leg of my journey researching Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. It is a small community so I started at 6:30 AM with the downtown and some of the parks and trails as they are usually available to research at such an early hour. The community has some beautiful older buildings and you can tell they are trying to improve the scenery because of the efforts of the community pathway following the river.
It was the community pathway which was the highlight of my stay in Prince Albert. The heritage site was a bit of a let down. Not much to see. Been there done that. However, the pathway was a pleasant surprise as it provided the best views of the community and of the Saskatchewan River. There were benches, picnic tables, shelters, monuments, boat launches, totem poles, interpretive signs, statues and more.
The pathway connected to many parks. Many of the locals were taking advantage of the path in the morning either running, dog walking, biking or just sightseeing.
The biggest highlight of the Prince Albert area were the sandy beaches, lakes and the Village of Waskesui in the Prince Albert National Park – minus the “Campground Cops” (refer to last post).
My work is done in Prince Albert. I am heading to Saskatoon for a few days. The road awaits. I am packed and out the door. Another adventure is just around the corner.
