I am back Mt. McKay
I told you I would be back Mount McKay! Last night I received the proper directions from some of the people who work the campground here at Chippewa Park in Thunder Bay. It turns out the map I received from the tourism people took me up the wrong road. A right instead of a left thing. Imagine that!
The campground came through again. Such good people – Cheryl, Cheryl and Audrey (spelling could be off) were kind enough to fill me in on the local attractions while we pumped into each other at a 60s-70s concert at Chippewa Park. There was a little bit of Beatles, Bob Dylan, Cream, Buffalo Springfield and CCR among other impersonations. It was not the best in vocals (some were good, some should retire) but the two guitarists were impressive. No matter though as the atmosphere was friendly.
Today the rain had stopped and the skies turned from gray to blue. Good day to explore. With my new directions I set out to topple Mount McKay. The drive was easy with the right directions. The signage to get there was virtually non existent though. At the entrance a very nice First Nation man greeting me. We exchanged deep thoughts, world views and attempted to solve today’s issues. We left each other wishing, “Everyone should just try and get along.”
My trip up the bumpy road was short. First I was greeted by two large monuments of Ojibwa women. The monument is a tribute to the Ojibwa Elders. The statues stand side by side in a blazing yellow decor, both standing tall in front of a large mountain outcrop. On my visit it was all blue sky too! I took a moment with the ladies and thanked them for the beautiful pictures. And then packed up and proceeded to the lookout.
At the lookout is a giant white cross . Perched in front of the cross is a long boardwalk lookout path with railings. The path follows the side of the cliff providing amazing views of the community of Thunder Bay, Lake Superior and the legendary Sleeping Giant. (Sleeping Giant is in the background of the main picture).
The sun was hot, the views were excellent and the breeze just right. I took my pictures, even took time to do a 260 degree view picture. On my way down the road from the lookout I waved to my new friend at the toll gates. To myself I wished him well again. Now the day is coming to an end and your up to date in our adventures.
Cheers!
