Fall Adventures in Canada
Talk to most people not from Canada or read some of the magazine articles written by people who visited Canada during some foul weather and it would be easy to think that Canada is all about rain, storms and snow.
It irks me when bad press is taken as fact when these so-called experts have no idea what is truly fact or fiction. It is because of this bad press that some people still think we live in igloos knee deep in snow year round.
It is because of bad marketing we have an awkward summer tourism season often cut short when it should really extend from April to October in many parts of the country.
It is true that our weather is up and down like a roller coaster during the fall season. We get long dry spells of sunshine some weeks and in some areas we play in many days of rain under dark looming clouds… but so what if some days the sun is out and some days the rain is falling – everything can make for a good picture.
Rain or shine, we realize that to enjoy our green and lush landscape we must embrace the rain also. Without the rain there would be no green.
So what do we do in Canada in the fall when the winds can play tricks, the rains flood rivers and the sunshine can still burn. Well… some take to the couch and complain about life but that is not just a Canadian issue that is a world wide issue.
Many of us take to the outdoors, releasing our free spirits and embracing the weather and the challenges of the season while enjoying our favorite activities like hiking, camping, golfing, fishing, wildlife touring, cycling, scuba diving, mountain biking, surfing, sailing, boating, caving and more.
Not all adventures are outdoors either. Canada is full of culture and history. A day of rain is a great day to visit an art gallery, historical site, theatre production, dining experience or a museum.
It is not the seasons which determines our level of activity – it is our attitudes. Change your attitude and there is always lots to do. Every landscape is beautiful when you take the blinders off.
That reminds me I wanted to go for a walk down the street to the red sand beach and wander the shore to see what trouble I can run into…. they say rain and sun is on its way … how cool is that another unpredictable day of adventure!
