Kicking Horse Mountain is a downhill ski, snowboard, xc ski and mountain biking recreation destination located in Golden, BC in the Kootenay region in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
In winter other activities enjoyed on the mountain include rock climbing, telemark skiing, snowmobiling, heli skiing, cross country skiing, ice skating, tubing and snowshoeing. In the summer activities enjoyed include like hiking, horseback riding, rafting, wildlife viewing and safaris. There is a booking office on the mountain for many activities in the Golden area.
After the snow has fallen, the mountain is a ski resort boosting a vertical of 1260 metres attracting skiers and snowboarders from around the world. The mountain is the highest vertical in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The mountain resort terrain covers 2750 acres and includes 3 alpine bowls and over 70 chutes accessed by 106 ski runs.
The ski runs on the mountain cater to all skiers and boarders skill levels . On the mountain 20% of the ski runs are designed for beginners, 20% for intermediate, 45% advanced and 15% expert. Some of the runs include the Snow Goose, Buffalo Jump, Wiley Coyote, Cloud Nine, Bugablue, Flying Dutchman, Whistle Blower, Iron Horse, Prairie Oyster, Two Trick Poney and the Nirvana. The longest run is 10 kilometres.
In the summer months Kicking Horse Mountain is an extreme mountain biking destination in the Kootenays. The resort is one of the prime mountain biking destinations in British Columbia, Canada. The mountain trails are serviced by a Gondola fitted for mountain bikes. The trails include some high skill level downhill routes as well as some trick routes with some good air.
Kicking Horse on the mountain is a full service village. The services include restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, rental shops, gift stores, tours and plenty of accommodations. Accommodations include vacation homes, chalets, cottages hotels and resorts.
