Kimbol Lake Trail is a back country hiking trail near the community of Nakusp, BC, Canada in the Kootenays. The one-way 4 kilometre dirt trail explores a forest of cedar and hemlock trees in the Kuskanax Creek valley before connecting to a remote alpine lake with a picnic table.
The trailhead to the adventure hike is located behind the office of the Nakusp Hot Springs. The trail begins following along a wide gravel path to a foot bridge and viewing area overlooking the Kuskanax Creek.
Once across the bridge the trail narrows and gravel becomes dirt and earth. The trail continues into the forests with some areas of elevation gain. About half way there are 2 wooden chairs in a clearing which once was a logging road. A great spot for a rest.
The trails then continues upward from here for a short way before leveling out. One follows along the base of a high rock wall before connecting to the lake. The forest becomes thinner and the trail is identified with tree markers. A look around and one can identify Devils Club and some huckleberry bushes. Berries attract bears so be aware of your surroundings.
Once at Kimbol Lake there is a picnic table and some great views. It is said there are raibow trout in the lake for those who fish. Along the lake edge is a rough trail to explore further. Explore this trail and one will find an old trapper's cabin.
