Some of the activities enjoyed in the Town Centre Park include birdwatching, walking, jogging, fishing and rollerblading. The paved, level trails also make the park very wheelchair and baby stroller friendly.
The Town Centre Park is surrounded by cement and city sounds. The green space is a welcome change for many during their day. The buildings which circle the park include city hall, a fire station, Douglas Collage, the City Aquatic Complex, Pinetree Secondary School and some residential buildings.
The main feature of the Town Centre Park is the man-made lake named Lafarge Lake. At one time it was a gravel pit and through reclamation efforts the area was transformed into a lake and parkland space.
Surrounding the lake are paved pathways. The paved paths are surrounded by trees, some providing shade. The main trail measures about 1.4 kilometres long and on the trail are a few sightseeing benches, picnic tables and grass lawn areas for lounging.
The trail and some side routes connect to park amenities and sporting venues including some sports fields, a stadium, a spray park, a playground, some tennis courts, a skateboard park, beach volleyball courts, a bmx track and some gardens.
