Lac du Bois Grasslands Area is a protected conservation area located north of Kamloops, BC in the Thompson-Shuswap region of British Columbia Canada. The grassland park overlooks the North and South Thompson River.  

Lac du Bois Grasslands Area measures over 15,000 hectares of grassland fields with some canyons, forests, lakes and cliffs. Complimenting the protective efforts of the province the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) purchased 2,342 acres (948 hectares) in and around the Lac Du Bois Grasslands Protected Area in 2008. 

During the summer the park enjoys activities including hiking, wilderness camping, mountain biking, ATVing, horseback riding and fishing for trout in Deep Lake. In the winter months the area is a xc ski and snowshoe destinations. Be reminded the trails are not maintained. A park permit is required for some activities. 

The conservation efforts are in place to protect the Thompson Basin and Northern Thompson Uplands eco-systems. There are 3 seperate grassland communities in the park. Most of the area is grasslands however there are groves of Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine trees. 

The hiking trails in the park include the Mara Trail (3.5 km loop), Cinnamon Ridge Trail (4.25 km), Dewdrop Trail (5.7 km one way) and the Grasslands Community Trail (13 km).

How To Get ToLac du Bois Grasslands Area

There are 4 access roads. Tranquille-Criss Creek Forest Service Road (Red Lake Road), Long Lake Road a, Dairy Creek Road and Lac du Bois Road. Lac du Bois is best. From Fortune Drive and Tranquille Road, turn onto 8th Street. Drive through 2 traffic lights to the overpass, continue in the left-hand lane up the hill. At the cattle guard take the gravel road to the entrance.
