Summer Things To Do In Merritt BC

There are so many things to do in Merritt British Columbia Canada in all four seasons. The gravel roads and hiking trails in the region lead deep into the Nicola Valley backcountry connecting with many lakes. Our wilderness lakes provide many camping, wildlife sighting, birdwatching, canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing, boating, water skiing and fishing opportunities. Our 280 kilometres of trails are designated multi use and single use for hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking and horseback riding.

Winter Things To Do In The Nicola Valley

In our winter tourism and adventure months, our hundreds of lakes freeze over and snow covers our higher elevations creating a pristime environment for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and snowshoeing. Trails in the Helmer Lake area north of Merritt are designated for snowmobiling in the colder months while cross country skiers like the Kane Valley XC ski trails south of town. Snowmobiling is enjoyed in the local trails as well as in the neighboring Coquihalla Highway region.

The City of Merrit maintains our community parks. And just outside of the city limits we also have a provincial park on Nicola Lake. Some of the more popular community parks in town includes Central Park, Rotary Park and Centennial Park. Just outside of the community is the Monck Provincial Park. In the backcountry of Nicola Valley are some easy-access gravel roads leading to wilderness lake destinations like Nicola Lake, Marquart Lake, and Lundbom Lake. Others like Helmer Lake, Lily Lake, Gwen Lake take a little more effort as they are deeper into the backcountry.
