The 142 hectare Sargeant Bay Provincial Park was designated as a protected area because of the fragile coastline ecology of the area including the exposed marine life at low tide, the rocky headlands and the forested uplands area. The Sunshine Coast park attracts many outdoor enthusiasts interested in kayaking, board sailing, fishing and scuba diving.

The Sargeant Bay Provincial Park natural landscape attracts much wildlife. A portion of the park is designated as protected wetlands so the area is a prime location for birding enthusiasts to view Harlequin Ducks, Canada Geese and Trumpeter Swans.

The coastline area is a popular destination for many types of birds like loons, cormorants, Bald Eagles, ravens, hawks and owls. Along some of the main trails in this park there is a great opportunity to experience and observe fish fighting upstream at the fish ladder emptying into Colvin Lake and Colvin Creek.

The beach area is for day-use only with amenities provided onsite like a picnic area, boat launch and pit toilets.

This Sargeant Bay Provincial Park also features a safe anchorage for kayaks and some hiking trails for exploring around Triangle Lake and Colvin Creek. Colvin Creek trail is a quick, easy 1 km ( 0.6 mi) hike through forested uplands. Sargeants Bay Trail 2 km ( 1.3 mi.) follows along the ocean coastline of Georgia Strait to the wetlands area of the park. It should take about 1 hour to complete. At low tide the beach exposes the sand bars and tidal pools.

The Triangle Lake Hiking Trail begins just up the street from the parking lot of this park and continues from there for 3.4 km ( 2.1 mi.) each way. The Sunshine Coast route can take up to 3 hours to complete round trip. The trail starts in some trees, flowing into a meadow and then climbing up to the summit and Triangle Lake. When hiking the rout e there is opportunities to view some wildlife, mostly birds and sometimes bears.
