PRICE: Adults - $10, Student - $5, Kids - free
This is the best apple festival in Canada, over 350 organic apple varieties will be on display at the Fulford Harbour Hall, some are exclusive to the island. Salt Spring's apple history dates back to 1860 and dozens of participating orchards, farms and cideries will be opening their doors to welcome festival goers. This is a great opportunity to learn about producing organic food, apple varieties and of course apple and cider tasting. Festival goers will be given a map to explore the farms at leisure. In past years boxed lunches were also available at the farms, along with apple pie.

I am going to try and attend this year and hoping they have the apple pies. What is very interesting is that they do not use irrigation on the orchards. Being a small island surrounded by the cooler waters of the strait, this generates a lot of heavy dew and this dew is the main source of irrigation for the apples. One farm alone produces over 365 varieties of apple, yes that's a different apple for each day of the year! I will report back on this! More ...
