      Cary Horning YES! I love fireworks and that is what comes to mind when I think of Canada Day besides buying flags at Dollarama, (and of course, theCary Horning YES! I love fireworks and that is what comes to mind when I think of Canada Day besides buying flags at Dollarama, (and of course, the more thoughtful moments of reflection on how thankful I am to live in this country). There are two opportunities to see fireworks where I live. One is the capital, Victoria, BC, downtown is 10 minutes away or Sidney BC a seaside community on the island that is about 20 minutes away. Both the City of Victoria and Town of Sidney put on a 20-minute fireworks display. This year, as I often do, I will go to Sidney. They are having a concert in the park, and I am hoping the mini-donut vendor is there. I like viewing the fireworks from Glass Beach near the Sidney wharf. You can wander down Beacon Ave. the main street of Sidney and check out the bookstores, grab a coffee, and bag of mini donuts listen to the concert and then find a spot to view the fireworks. Of course, I wouldn't want to knock the capital. There are lots of events happening throughout the day on the grounds of the legislature as well and the fireworks over the harbour and there is great shopping along Government Street. However, in terms of parking, and crowds, Sidney is laid back, no huge crowds, and people do not start running for their cars before the show is over in order to avoid getting caught up in the 1-hour traffic jam to leave town. One of the problems of living on an island with limited space --traffic bottlenecks. I have also noted that Sidney is having a pancake breakfast! YES, I think I will take that in as well.
