Ontario Fall Colors and Unique Geological Topography

Ontario Canada road trips provide many colourful sighting adventures in October.

Cheltenham Badlands Road Trip - Autumn Season - There are many great places around Ontario for an autumn season road trip. Some, like this one, are small drivable distances not far from Toronto. This one just happens to offer great views of Fall Foliage in October. Therefore, it is safe to say that few autumn colours can compete with Cheltenham Badlands in terms of cool color composition and a very unique geological topography.

Cheltenham Badlands Road Trip - Autumn Season Transportation

Cheltenham Badlands is located at a distance of around 65 km from Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Therefore, it should take around 45 minutes to drive there. It is a beautiful drive in terms of nature and scenery. However, it is important to note, that there are a very few public transportation options available, therefore a road trip is the best form of transportation to reach the colorful destination.

Book Your Trip To The Cheltenham Badlands in Ontario

Furthermore, a very important point, is that you need to reserve access to the park prior to travelling there. Hate to go all that way and not be able to park or explore the region. When booking in advance, you need to provide the car license number as well. You can reserve online using this link

Waves Of Rolling Rock

The main attraction in the Cheltenham Badlands is the red coloured soil and the gradual sloping ground, like waves of rock, which is formed due to the geological process on the part of the Niagara Escarpment. There is a short trail to explore the region called the Badland Trail. There you have a very good view of the unique geography as well as the fall foliage. Ideal for taking photos.

Sightseeing Colours is Best

Best time to visit the natural colours of Fall would be from October to early November depending on the weather conditions. Peak season in terms of Fall colour should be mid October. I would bring a camera too if I were you.

Forks of Credit Provincial Park

Also when visiting the Badlands, you can also visit Forks of Credit Provincial Park which is around 12 km from the badlands. It has the Credit River running through it. You get a good view of the waterway from some viewing areas. It is also a perfect place for fishing. There is a great trail called the Bruce Trail exploring the whole area.

Belfountain General Store

There are not many places to eat near the Cheltenham Badlands. There are a few coffee shops nearby (driveable distance) but they may close early depending on season. One such place is The Common Good (in the Belfountain General Store Historical Building) which offers a great selection of teas and coffees. .

Such stunning photos! I never realized the Badlands made such a perfect fall hike! Walked through on the Bruce Trail in spring and was really impressed then too. Will definitely have to return in autumn!
