Sandy Beach Recreation Area is a sporting and beach destination located in Northwestern Ontario, Sunset Country in the community of Dryden.
The park is two-fold. A large portion of the park is set aside to make room for baseball fields and a soccer pitch. There is a small sandy beach and picnic area nearby with a concession stand for tournaments, events and holiday weekends.
The waterfront section of the park enjoys a hiking trail which connects the Sandy Beach Recreation Area with another, larger sandy beach and picnic area called Flat Rock.
The Flat Rock trailhead is near the small beach on Wabigoon Lake. The short, overgrown, trail explores a forest and climbs over a rocky point before it drops down into Flat Rock and a larger sandy beach.
Flat Rock includes a shoreline covered with massive black slabs of rock hanging over the banks of Wabigoon Lake. Nearby are grass lawns, picnic tables and sightseeing benches.
From the trail and from Flat Rock there are some good opportunities for sightseeing boats, birds and marine activity.
The activities enjoyed in the park and accessed from the park include swimming, windsurfing, picnicking, hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, fishing, boating, sailing, baseball and soccer.
The services and amenities available in the Sandy Beach Recreation Area include a day use area with picnic shelter and picnic tables, sightseeing benches, playground, concession, pit toilets and large gravel parking lot.
It seems the area surrounding the Sandy Beach Area is also very active with sports and recreation. Nearby there is a golf course, disc golf and a curling rink.
