Dolphin Encounter While Boating in Newfoundland Canada

By Cora Lee Rennie in Newfoundland 1115 views 28th Apr, 2023 Video Duration: N/A   Little Bay, NL A0J, Canada

My dolphin encounter while boating in Newfoundland Canada was one to remember for a lifetime. I always get so excited when I am joined by dolphins while boating near my home in Little Bay, located on the islands Burin Peninsula. This playful pod of dolphins joined my dad and I while on the water in Placentia Bay NL. The louder we played the music in the boat the more animated the marine life would become. In fact, the dolphin were jumping out of the water doing flips all around the speedboat.

Dolphins and porpoises are at the top of the food chain and have an important role in the balance of the marine environment. They can tell us a lot about the health of the ocean, such as the prescence of pollution or the decline of fish. Interestingly, the difference between a dolphin and a porpoise has to do with their appearance. Dolphins have longer snouts, bigger mouths, more curved dorsal fins, and longer, leaner bodies than porpoises.

Dolphin sightings were fairly common during my time on the ocean in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Other sea life that can be seen on local boat tours include humpback whales, minke whales, seals, otters, sunfish, and orcas. Unfortunately, I have witnessed humpback whales get attacked by pods of orcas in the past.

In conclusion, Newfoundland and Labrador Canada is an amazing province for watching marine life and having up close personal encounters with wildlife such as dolphins. I highly recommend adding a whale and bird watching boat tour to your NL travel itinerary. Newfoundland and Labrador coastal adventures offer experiences that will stay with you a lifetime.
