My fjord boating adventure in Newfoundland Canada landed me in a very unique destination. While on a jet ski excursion around Fortune Bay, NL, I found myself in the isolated community of Rencontre East. We stumbled about the beautiful place whole exploring the coast and I quickly made friends with the locals and ended up staying for days. I had a blast exploring their beautiful land and learning about living life in a rural isolated village. Rencontre East is located in Fortune Bay and accessible only by personal watercraft or ferry service from Pool's Cove or Bay L'Argent on the Burin Peninsula . The outport community is located north east of Belleorum and west of Terrenceville. In fact, there are no vehicles in the community. Modes of transportation include walking, biking, boat or ATV. While on an off grid tour at Rencontre lake, I was amazed by the breathtaking mountain landscape. As we continued "up da pond", as the locals call it, we were able to take im the scenic views of towering mountains, fjords and waterfalls. I really was able to appreciate the glacially carved fjord and it reminded me of the gorge in Gros Morne National Park. When we arrived at the end of the lake we were greeted with a beautiful sandy beach, cabins by the water and warm welcoming local residents inviting us in for a cold summer beer. In conclusion, unexpected, unplanned and spontaneous adventures always make for the best memories! Rencontre East is a very unique, off grid, adventure travel destination in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
