Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada rests on the banks of the Abitibi River surrounded by lakes, rivers and boreal forests. The community is located in the Wilderness Region of northern Ontario, Canada. In and around Iroquois Falls there are a group of smaller communities including Connaught, Nellie Lake, Porquis Junction, Val Gagne, Black River- Matheson, Kelso and Monteith. Together, the communities, provide a doorway into the wilderness backcountry and to many outdoor adventures.
The backcountry in the region is heavily forested and decorated with lakes. Gravel roads are recreation routes providing access to remote wilderness adventures during summer and winter.
In the summer - the forest, lakes, rivers and parks provide a bevy of adventures. The most popular adventures in the summer include fishing, golfing, flightseeing, birdwatching, hiking, mountain biking, camping, touring, hunting, ATVing, skydiving, canoeing, boating, kayaking, cycling and music festivals.
In the winter months activities enjoyed in the region include snowmobiling, ice fishing and xc skiing. There is a local nordic xc ski centre with groomed trails and a snowmobile club.
Some of the local "points of interest" include "The Shay" locomotive, the Detroyes Historical Plaque, the pioneer museum and some archaeological sites. "The Shay" is a three car locomotive built in 1928. The train was all about power because it was used for hauling large loads and manipulating the often "rough" train tracks.
Some of the more popular destinations for activity and adventure in the area includes Anson Memorial Park, Devonshire Park, M.A.A. Park , Dr. Haskins and Dr. Hall Park, DeMaricourt Park , O'Mara Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Monteith Park and the Lake Abitibi Model Forest.
Nearby, there are three wilderness parks called the Kettle Lakes Provincial Park, the Esker Lakes Provincial Park and the Abitibi DeTroyes Waterway Provincial Park. Getting to and from the parks and communities provide some great sightseeing road trips. Along the road routes are various viewing areas and picnic rest stops.
