The World's Largest Mallard Duck lives in the small village of Andrew, Alberta, Canada with a population of only around 400 residents. Only 1 hour east from Alberta's capital city of Edmonton. This huge road side attraction is located in the Andrew Lions Club Community Park, better known as Centennial Park, surrounded by a beautiful green space with a pavilion as well as a playground and lovely walking trails. A wonderful place for a picnic in the park while traveling in this area of central Alberta.
This large bird weighs in at a whopping 1 tonne, and has a wingspan of 23 feet! Nearby Whitford Lake is where the idea for this attraction came from. Whitford Lake is a fantastic birdwatching area and a popular spot for, you guessed it, Mallards. This area is frequently used as a breeding area for this beautiful duck species. Thus why the community of Andrew decided to put up an oversized mallard duck to honour their many other feathery seasonal residents. This tourist attraction was built in 1992 by the Andrew Lions Club members with a tourism grant to help draw people to this quaint little community and add another addition to the Giants of the Prairies tour.
The village of Andrew is where you will find the Andrew & District Local History Museum (may be permanently closed now?), as well as the annual Garlic Festival in October. You may even come across frequent Farmers Markets on select days from May to September in Andrew, Alberta. Additionally, they have a wonderful Christmas market in November. There's also a RV park near this oversized duck statue to accommodate you on a roadtrip through central Alberta. Visit the local shops, and link up with Mystic Mana for some unique finds and more events! Visit Whitford Lake for some birdwatching and see why they choose the mallard. While touring around the area, be sure to check out the huge Vegerville Egg and the gigantic Mundare Sausage not far from the World's Largest Duck!
