The Historic Trading Post at 117  White Avenue is a must-visit while in Bragg Creek. The Trading Post was established in 1932 and is located in the same historic spot it was originally built more than 90 years ago across from the Elbow River and beside the centuries-old Stoney Trail. A man named Jack Elsdon came to the area and started a trucking business and started trading with the native people. The business is still in the same family. The aroma of freshly tanned hides and the warmth of the wood stove greets you as you enter the store. There is so much to look at you can spend hours browsing all there is to see. Historic antiques and genuine Native Crafts, beautiful Moccasins & Mukluks as well as Real Cowichan Knitwear and so much more! Owner Barb Teghtmeyer is a lovely lady who loves to answer tourists' questions and is a historian of the area.

In June 2013 Bragg Creek and the Trading Post sustained massive damage when the Elbow River breached its banks and flooded the area. This was not the first time Bragg Creek and the Trading Post flooded but this time the Elbow River rose three-and-a-half meters higher than it usually is and had scary flow rates 25% higher than the average. Other flood events occurred in 1916 & 1923 (taking out the Ranger Station bridge) 1929, 1932, 1948, 1963, 1967, 1968, 1995, 2005 and 2013. The Elbow River flood of 2003 was devastating to Southern Alberta but Bragg Creek, other Towns & Cities the Elbow River passed by and the Trading Post rebounded from the damage, and many fully recovered from Mother Nature's wrath. Today the Trading Post is better than ever and Bragg Creek is a bustling tourist town just waiting to welcome you.
