Butter Tart Lovers, mark your calendars for Saturday, June 10th, 2023!
Downtown Midland, Ontario will be filled with THE BEST BUTTER TARTS EVER.
Voted one of the Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario, you absolutely don't want to miss this sweet treat day. This Festival is one of my Top 10 Ontario Favorites. Mouthwatering deliciousness.
One full kilometer on Main Street, downtown is filled with many street vendors where you'll find lots of clothing, accessories, artisan items, food, and Butter Tarts galore.
The downtown merchants will be having a Sidewalk-Sale in front of their shops and while browsing you can enjoy the all-day entertainment with the wonderful variety of folk, rock, funk, and jazz bands.
Head over to the Midland Cultural Centre where 120 butter tarts will compete and only one will be crowned 'Best of Show'.
No worry about parking! There is a free shuttle from Penetanguishene Town Dock to Downtown Midland.
Midland Transit also will be running every 30 minutes and it's free for the day.

I was looking up the history of this Canadian dessert and was surprised to come across a writer's memory of having butter tarts at the lake and then jumping in to wash off the stickiness. I this contest is held in June. Interestingly, I have always associated butter tarts to the fall and winter seasons. Something to pick up for the spread at Boxing Day. Summertime at the lake or beach has always been some sort of berry pie: blueberry, raspberry, blackberry or all three!
