Next to the Cathedral on Tache Street in Winnipg is the oldest building in Winnipeg, the Old Grey Nun's convent. Now the St. Boniface Museum it holds artifacts related to the Grey Nuns that came to minister to the sick and needy in the mid 1800s. It also holds significant Metis artifacts and several things relating to Louis Riel, including his steamer trunk he left for Montreal with to pursue his studies as a teenager. He is buried nearby as is his father and other prominent Metis leaders and officials.
