T'Railway Trail, NL is Our First Top Trail of our 10 Top Trails for Winter Adventures in Canada

The T'Railway Trail in Newfoundland is first on our list of top trails for winter adventures in Canada.  Spanning 847 km, the T'Railway Trail crosses Newfoundland from St. John's to Channel-Port aux Basques. Amazingly, this multi-use path was once the route of the narrow-gauge provincial railway regionally known as the 'Newfie Bullet'. Interestingly, the T'Railway Trail is now a linear Provincial Park, and numerous reminders of the railway still remain.  For example, historic station houses, rail cars, local railway museums, and a huge number of trestle bridges and train tunnels are still enjoyed by skiers, snowshoers, and snowmobilers along the entire route.

Traversing the province on the T'Railway offers an incredible opportunity to experience Newfoundland's stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and welcoming communities.   Specifically, as it winds across 'The Rock' this recreational path passes through tranquil forests and vast boreal wetlands.  In addition, the trail is extremely well-maintained in winter by regional snowmobile clubs, and features warm-up huts along its length.  In short, the T'Railway Trail provides an excellent base for winter activities, and its gravel rail bed is perfect for motorized travel on both snowmobiles in winter and ATV's in summer. Whether you're seeking a peaceful escape or an adventure through challenging terrain, the T'Railway Trail is a fantastic way to discover the natural beauty of Newfoundland.  Not only does this trail provide excellent opportunities for snowmobiling in winter, it also ranks at the top of our list of Ultimate Canadian ATV Trail from Coast to Coast in the summer.
