Alberta, Canada (xc) cross country skiing is a recreational activity very much enjoyed in many of the winter communities located in the province. There are many styles which fall under the xc ski umbrella including nordic skiing, ski touring, telemarketing, backcountry skiing, track skiing and skate skiing.

Alpine Nordic Centres

Many of the communities in Alberta which enjoy an active winter activity season are located near alpine nordic centres. The nordic centres maintain a network of cross country ski trails, provide ski lessons, guided tours and operate the nordic centre lodges and rental shops.

Alberta XC Ski Touring

Tours vary. There are day tours and multi day adventures. Some may include meals, accommodations, entertainment and transportation to and from staging areas. Most include a skilled guide with wilderness survival skills and first aid training.

There are parks and community pathways located within the communities of Alberta which maintain cross country ski trails during the winter season. The trails are used for recreation purposes and for moving around the community. The trails located in some of the parks, communities and alpine nordic centres are maintained and include amenities like night lights, groomed trails and warming huts with wood stoves.

XC Skiing in the Rocky Mountain region includes the resorts, nordic centres and staging areas in the Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and in Kananaskis Country. In the North Alberta region some of the cross country ski destinations to visit include the Muskoseepi Park and the Wapiti Trails (Grande Prairie). Central Alberta, Canada parks and trails which are xc skiing destinations include the Pigeon Lake Provincial Park and the North Saskatchewan River Valley (Edmonton); the William A. Switzer Park (Hinton) and the Crimson Lake Provincial Park (Rocky Mountain House). Some of the South Alberta cross country ski destinations include the Fish Creek Provincial Park  (Calgary); the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park; the Crowsnest Pass and the Waterton Lakes National Park.
