This oversized roadside attraction, known as the Mundare Sausage, is found about an hour east of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in the small town of Mundare. The community of Mundare has a population of around 900 (2023) and has experienced some growth in the last 20 years from a population of under 700 (2002). This huge sausage is surrounded by a nice small green space park with picnic tables and a few other fun things to check out.
Why did this community choose a gigantic sausage as their tourist attraction? Easy answer, the Stawnichy's Meat Processing factory in town. It is a tribute to this family owned Ukrainian food company that has been open and local to the area since 1959. And apparently, they really do make amazing sausages and are worthy of a visit to Stawnichy's or Uncle Ed's Restaurant to try it out! Interestingly, the Mundare Sausage statue weighs in at a staggering 12000lbs and is 42 feet tall! Apparently known as the "Giant Turd" by some locals. Built in 2001 as a tourism rest area featuring this huge kielbasa.
