Where to Find the Huge Easter Egg in Alberta Canada

Vegreville is a small community about 45 minutes east of Edmonton  Alberta, Canada. A popular road trip stop if out hunting for the Giants of the Prairies roadside attractions. The Vegreville Pysanka is found just off of Hwy 16A in the Elks/Kinsmen Park. Accompanied by the tourist information centre as well as a campground. Easily found, hard to miss.

History Behind the Vegreville Pysanka

A Pysanka is a traditional Ukrainian style Easter egg. As you may have guessed, this area has strong Ukrainian roots, and so the Vegreville & District Chamber of Commerce decided, in the mid 1970s, to build what was once the World's Largest Easter Egg, but still looks as good as new today. Some interesting facts about the construction of this gigantic egg include: Constructed like a massive jigsaw puzzle, almost 7000 nuts and bolts were used, is 25.7 ft long and 18 feet wide, and apparently an achievement of nine architectural, mathematical, and engineering firsts. As well, it drew so much international attention even Queen Elizabeth and some guests came to see it.

If you have never heard of the Go East Edmonton tours, you're in the right place to check it out and start marking off your fun finds. The Go East Tourism information centre is located just steps from the huge egg and will have awesome handy maps to help you find some locals gems. Take a road trip to the nearby towns of Mundare, and Andrew for some more oversized finds!
