There’s a pond, playground, Hall, bird sanctuary, mini waterfall, lake and trails to explore with a boardwalk through a marsh. Make sure to bring your camera.
This park is just off the Trans Canada Highway SW Bypass. A good spot to stop and stretch your legs if you are driving past Sudbury. Lively, Ontario is a suburb of Sudbury.
There’s a picnic table and a couple of benches where you can sit and enjoy the view of Kelly Lake at the Fielding Bird Sanctuary. You can see ducks, geese and swans.
Just before the boardwalk, there is a section of the Kelly Lake Trail which goes through a grove of birch trees. I know it’s tempting to peel off some bark. Instead, pick up bark from the ground. Peeling off too much birch bark can kill the tree.
There are 2 ways to enter the walking Trails. From the parking lot, through the gates in this picture. Or, through the Fielding Memorial Park. Parking is free.
The trails are well-signed so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. We decided to visit the Fielding Bird Sanctuary first. It’s at the East end of Kelly Lake and a short walk from the parking lot, along the Fielding Park Loop.
We had picked this park in hopes of seeing swans. But, only saw ducks on our walk. It was the May long weekend so, it may have been a little early for the swans.
Just before the path to the Fielding Bird Sanctuary, there is a trail to the right. This is the Kelly Lake Trail that winds along the lake, from one end to the other. It’s an 8.7km hike, one way.
It’s popular for walking, hiking, bird watching...

We heard it before we saw the mini-waterfall. There’s a small path off of the Fielding Park Loop that will take you to a picnic table on a platform that overlooks a mini waterfall on the river.
