The Ausable River Valley Trail and Mystery Falls Loop in Parkhill, Ontario, offers visitors a journey through one of Ontario's Carolinian forest regions. The trail begins with a well-marked path, winding along the Ausable River. It includes steep ravines and gullies in a mixed deciduous forest with many beech and oak trees. There are a few areas with basic stairs to help hikers navigate the muddy and slippery areas. The trail does lead across a creek, so proper footwear is recommended. The highlight of our journey was reaching Mystery Falls, a secluded waterfall with a deep overhanging rock ledge. There is a beautiful little spot with benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the beautiful falls view. Parking for this hike can be found at a small lot off of Elm Tree Road.
