The Somenos Marsh is 200 ha. in size and includes Somenos Lake and four creeks. . This is part of the Somenos Watershed which covers over 60 sq. km. This photo gallery concentrates on Watts Walk, an easy walk approximately .8 km. long. A boardwalk protects the marsh and provides benches along the way. Many nesting boxes are to be seen. This is a bird observatory and nature conservation park. Over 200 types of birds have been seen here.

Over 200 species of birds have been seen in this area. There were a number more signs such as Cedar Waxwing, Trumpeter Swan, Spotted Towhee, etc. but many you'd have to identify on your own.

These signs make identifying birds so easy. However over 200 species of birds have been seen in this area. So a bird book would be helpful.

The boardwalk continues for a long way and it is impressive to see the number of people who have donated or donated in someone's memory. A community project!

It was wonderful to sit on one of the many benches and listen to the birdsong. Swallows were plentiful at Somenos Marsh.

Birding enthusiasts have carried on the work of John Comer by creating swallow nesting boxes. Tree swallows were abundant when I visited the marsh.

This is the most extensive boardwalk I've come across. Many signs telling about birds and plants can be seen from the boardwalk. Also many nesting boxes.
