Sea Kayaking in Twillingate Newfoundland Canada is a bucket-list adventure when exploring the rugged coastline of famous “iceberg alley”. There are multiple local kayak rental and tour companies in the historic fishing town on Notre Dame Bay. In fact, this wild neck of the woods is an adventure seeker paradise and I am very excited to explore more of this magnificent place.

The kayak featured in the photos below was skillfully made local in Cottlesville Newfoundland, a small rural community located outside of Summerford on New World Island. The kayak building company is accurately named “Sea Knife Kayaks Inc.’ as the handmade fibreglass boat. “She cut thru da water right good” like I would say in my Newfie slang - until I went overboard! However, I am blaming that on a wild tuna fish - but that’s a whole other story haha! In addition to sea kayaking I have been simply enjoying exploring around outdoors, beach-combing and taking all kinds of pictures!!
Fall is such a magical season for exploring in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada!

Traditional root cellars in Twillingate Newfoundland are one of my favourite things to photograph in the historic seaside fishing town. This cellar is located at Lupinfield Cottage vacation accommodation and holds so much mystery. Imagine the stories this old food storage cellar holds of days gone by in Newfoundland. Cottage owner and designer, Charlie, does the sweetest job decorating his restored historic properties in Twillingate.

Sea Kayaking on Thanksgiving Saturday offered up a spectacular sunset over the North Atlantic Ocean near Crow Head, North Twillingate Island. The handmade Sea Knife Kayak cut through the water very nicely.

The North Atlantic Ocean is beautiful to experience in sea kayak, however, the NL sea is very dangerous and unpredictable with large swells, rogue waves and large water creatures such as sunfish, tuna, whales and sharks even! Always remember to keep safety first, wear your PFD, keep a close eye on weather, paddle with a friend, carry a reliable communication device and always be prepared to go in the water! I typically wear a wetsuit and diving boots when on the ocean as you can imagine “iceberg alley” is quite cold!

Not only is Back Harbour Twillingate a beautiful location to catch a stunning ocean sunset, it is also home to many sweet and brightly coloured fishing stages.

I loved admiring the crayon hued fishing sheds and stages while kayaking through the harbour in Twillingate. The ocean was so calm during this paddle over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It was the perfect way to relax and unwind!

The Sea Knife fibreglass kayak was handcrafted locally by a boat builder in Cottlesville NL, on New World Island. I was impressed with the comfort of the kayak and its ability to cut through the water nicely!

Tide is out in Twillingate harbour when you see all the orange-yellow coloured kelp exposed.

Sea Kayak adventures are high up on my list of favourite coastal expeditions, however I love boating and Sea-Doo trips quite a lot too! Sea kayaking is great for exploring close to land and secluded beaches.
