Sushi Island Restaurant in Downtown St. John’s Newfoundland

By Cora Lee Rennie in Newfoundland 1213 views 30th Mar, 2023 Video Duration: N/A   St. John's, NL, Canada

Sushi Island is a restaurant in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Newfoundland is known for its fresh Atlantic seafood and sushi is always a good idea! The first time I visited Sushi Island I was fascinated to order my food via I-Pad at the table and to have the meal delivered by a robotic kitty.  The Spider roll shown in the video was delicious and I didn't leave a bite! Additionally, to top things off, the robotic kitty  delivered me a bowl of complimentary mango ice cream!

  • We have a robotic waiter in one of our restaurants. Amazing it can even hold a conversation. Have many lunch time meetings there.

Not such a big leap in concept in considering the floating and conveyor belt sushi bars. That was where you sat around a circular bar with either a small river or conveyor belt around it. Different small plates of sushi would be continuously added to the track on coloured plates representing the different prices of the items. You would simply pick whatever came past your eyes and after a while there would be an accumulation of coloured plates which would be totaled for your bill. A two-dollar plate, a five-dollar plate and then WOW look at that bill!

Because of Covid I don't think there are many of places left. Although, I think Toronto might have one or two! Another, good place for a robot would be at a Dim Sum restaurant, taking the place of the roving carts. I think within 10 years robots will be common for certain establishments, a little sad though too, there is value in human connection.
