Wedge Pond is a scenic fishing destination in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. This pond used to be stocked with Arctic Grayling, but not every year. It's a fishing location that is 100% catch and release as well as no bait allowed. The Alberta Provincial fishing license is required, as it is located in Kananaskis Provincial Park. With that, a Kananaskis Pass is required to enjoy a day at Wedge Pond. This area is open year round and is a fun and beautiful place to explore in Kananaskis Country just east of Calgary. It was a slow fishing day, with only 1 fish spotted on the camera this time out.
I was so surprised when these guys were getting so close, that I had to try and put my hand out to see what would happen. I remember a friend telling me years ago how friendly these birds can be. Known as the Canada Jay or Whiskey Jack I believe....

There is not a lot of ice to be found in southern Alberta quite yet this year. But the mountain lakes are freezing up alright. Wedge Pond is a fun fishing location, and when it's not snow covered, can also be a great wild ice skating area!
Ice huts make it easier to stay out longer, especially when ice fishing with children. The Mr.Buddy Heater does a wonderful job of keeping the hut nice and warm.
A day fishing beats a day doing just about anything else...
Even when the fish aren't biting, the scenery around Wedge Pond still makes it an awesome day.
Ice fishing Wedge Pond is fun and easy with the kids. There's a small hill you can sled down as well as day use areas with picnic tables and fire pits. Pit vault toilets available at the pond as well.
