Township of Algonquin Highlands, the Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower
The initial tower, constructed in 1922, stood at a height of 25 meters (82 feet) and served as a fire lookout until 1961. The present tower was completed in 1967 and reaches a height of 30 meters (100 feet), built so that visitors could appreciate the scenery.
Visitors are welcome to climb to the observation deck, which is 142 metres (465 feet) above Lake of Bays, and enjoy the view from the tree-top lookout as well as ground level lookouts
Facilities include picnic sites, restrooms, a tourist information kiosk, a gift shop and a hiking trail.
Ontario Autumn Colors
Every year, over 10,000 vehicles (60,000 visitors) enter through the gates. During the busy autumn season, it is common for more than 600 vehicles to visit the tower in one day.
