Sea Lion rafting is such an amazing thing to witness! Here on the Sunshine Coast of BC these Sea Lions don't have a care in the world as the relax on the water and soak up the sun. Why do Sea Lions do this? Sea Lions will do this to rest and regulate their body temperatures. Sea Lions have a system of veins and arteries that transfer heat to their organs and the rest of their body. When they extend the flippers out of the water and into the air while rafting, the blood that is in the less insulated part of their body then absorbs the heat from the sun or warm air and circulates it through out their body!
