On a beautiful and warm winter's day we decided to take a road trip to Nordegg Alberta to explore Crescent Falls and David Thompson Country. This is absolutely stunning countryside on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. We were fortunate to see the famous Nordegg wild horses, to explore the tiny hamlet of Nordegg and to discover the gem that is Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area.
It was such a beautiful day to explore the frozen crescent waterfall. With above zero temperatures it was even too warm for the iconic Canadian red mittens.
The Nordegg Canteen is a great place to stop for lunch. We were so hungry and the food was so good, that it was long gone before we thought to take any photos. Guess, we'll just have to go back.
The upper falls are spectacular even from the closest viewpoint. Next time we will plan to hike the 5km return trail from the falls to Bighorn Lookout for views of the full two tiered waterfall.

This is the beginning of the 'mostly frozen' part of the creek. It is generally recommended to bring an extra pair of socks and to stick to the trail otherwise your feet will get wet.
As peaceful and inviting as a stroll on this frozen river looks, it is a fast flowing river above the falls. Be sure to stay on designated trails and enjoy the view from the shoreline.
