The Upper Arrow Lake Ferry is 1 of 3 free ferry crossings along Arrow Lakes. Arrow Lake is 1 lake referred to as 2. Split into Upper Arrow Lake and Lower Arrow Lake. This particular crossing is just 50 kms south of Revelstoke in British Columbia Canada on the far north side. Leaving from Shelter Bay crossing over to Galena Bay, it takes about 20 minutes to cross. The Ferry, M.V. Columbia, runs daily from 5 a.m to midnight, leaving Shelter Bay at the top of the hour. Whereas it departs from Galena Bay on the half hour mark. It's a large Ferry with a capacity of 80 vehicles or 250 passengers. The views are spectacular as you cross the northern section of Arrow Lake surrounded by mountains and pristine wilderness.
The Free Upper Arrow Lake Ferry connects the Revelstoke area with the nearby community of Nakusp. Fun fact- Arrow Lake has never frozen over. Many may think a Ferry crossing will be closed during the winter season, but not in British Columbia Canada! The large lakes do not freeze around here.

Fun tip- In the summer there are a bunch of waterfalls along this strip. But road access to them gets closed around September or October.
You know you're in BC when you see these amazing fishing boats everywhere. We saw quite a few being towed along the highway on the way. But this one was my favourite sighting.

Oh this boat. I love it.

Reel Life... Wicked name. I have a sticker that says Reel Chick. (I work with fishing stuff)
The boat was a bit icy and slippery to be wandering around, so mom waited in the Jeep. You are told where to park on the boat. And we got lucky with a nice outer edge lane.
Arrow Lake is referred to as Arrow Lakes. It's so large that it is split into 2 sections- Upper Arrow Lake and Lower Arrow Lake. This is looking down the lake from Upper Arrow.
The stunning views during the winter are something to see. I've been on this ferry in the summer and it was beautiful then as well. Just in different ways. The mountains always look extra neat with snow on them in my opinion.
Arrow Lake is a big lake. Considered "big water". Lakes of this size can be unpredictable weather wise.

I was once in my little inflatable fishing boat on Arrow Lakes (Lower Arrow),then a beautiful summer day. It quickly turned extremely nasty and it was not a good outlook for me in that situation. Luckily, I made it back to shore and hiked freezing cold to my vehicle. It was a wild time. A lot of lessons learned that day. And I should have known better coming from Ontario because it was drilled into me the additional dangers of "big water". Oh Arrow Lake. Hello again.
There are 3 ferry crossings on Arrow Lake/Arrow Lakes. Each of them are free and run at various times. There are schedules posted online as well as on the approach roads leading to the crossing points.
The M.V. Columbia is the name of the vessel that will bring you across Arrow Lake from Shelter Bay to Galena Bay in the Kootenay region of British Columbia Canada.
It was in the later part of the morning on a Monday for our return trip. The skies were overcast and the boat was pretty empty compared to our Friday afternoon trip over from Shelter Bay.
