In recent weeks Torbay has been full of pack sea ice with lots of bergy bits, growlers and icebergs. The sea ice has since floated back out to sea but scattered bergy bits remain along the local beaches. I took photographer Lindsay J. Ralph along with me on my daily nature walk. Lindsay captured these beautiful images of me having fun on Torbay beach searching for sea glass, sea shells and playing on the remaining bits of ancient berg ice! I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy this luxury every day while living along “Iceberg Alley” in Newfoundland, Canada.
What better place to model seal skin boots than sitting on a bergy bit in Newfoundland, Canada. Natural seal skin boots are made by Bilodeau Canada and beachcombing rucksack by Handmade Ramble.
The best time to search for sea treasures such as sea glass, sea shells, beach rocks and driftwood is after a period of rough sea. The waves and ice stir the ocean floor up and reveal hidden treasures.
The rugged cliffs of the island make for an amazing photography background. The cliffs also tell a story about the history of Newfoundland and have caught the attention of many Geologists! I enjoy searching for ancient fossils in the unique rock...

Strong ocean winds are very common in Newfoundland and Labrador but I try to get outside daily anyways ! Taking shelter amongst the rocks on the beach is a great way to enjoy a mindful moment wave watching.
Needed a place to sit and take in the amazing ocean views on Torbay Beach , Newfoundland. Although a little cold on the butt, this piece of sea ice made a perfect bench! Haha

I walk these shores daily in Torbay Newfoundland and meditate on the beach or on my “special rock” overlooking the bay. I try my best to embrace the Newfoundland mindset, practice mindfulness and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
Modelling the locally designed Mernini Rain Coat in color “Dory Yellow”. The best rain coat made for the worst weather. When I seen the release of the “Dory Yellow” Mernini I had visions of it glowing in the coastal fog and had to have it!
How many people can say they can walk out their front door, have a seat on a piece of iceberg and take in world class wave watching? Island life is very amazing despite the damp cold weather.
Sandy spots on rocky beaches are my favourite. I love playing in the sand, searching for sea glass and feeling the sand between my bare toes in summer.
Spring in Newfoundland and Labrador brings sea ice and icebergs ashore on beaches like this one in Torbay. Don’t I make frolicking in ice look like so much fun haha ?

While the sea ice in this photo makes for a great photo opportunity it is important to note that I am safely on land. It is not safe for locals or travellers to climb on pack sea ice or icebergs. The sea is very unpredictable and can change in the blink of an eye - so always remember safety first!
The rugged shores of home in Newfoundland will always be where my heart is. After working across Canada for 15 years it was such a joy to finally return home and smell the salty air once again !
