Twillingate Newfoundland and Labrador Canada is a rural town of 2121 people, according to Wikipedia, located on the Twillingate Islands in Notre Dame Bay. Off the North Eastern shore of the island, the top travel destination is located along famous “Iceberg Alley”, attracting tourists annually from all over the world. I would describe “Twilly” as a magical land filled with spectacular coastal hiking trails, awe inspiring landscapes, historic homes, traditional root cellars, hidden beaches and a love for the arts. The local people are kind hearted, welcoming and a pleasure to meet and live alongside. I look forward to learning more about the history and culture of Twillingate and discovering more in this unbelievable neck of the woods.
Below you will find just a small sample of photos from my recent weeks in Twillingate. However, I have much much more to come! In recent weeks I’ve been visiting my sweet friend and French interior designer, Charlie Fendley, who is also the innkeeper and owner of the Pumpkin House and Lupinfield Cottage. Furthermore, I have been exploring the coastal trails around the historical Long Point Lighthouse near Crow Head. I’ve been exploring NL root cellars, riding around the harbour in fishing boats, living in a live music show house and caring for cats and chickens (which is a whole other story).
Stay tuned for more from my new life in Twillingate Newfoundland and Labrador Canada

Curdling up by the wood burning fireplace at the historic Pumpkin House vacation home was the perfect way to enjoy the day.
Twillingate Newfoundland is an outdoor playground for adventure enthusiasts and explorers. I felt like a kid again playing on this swing set at a friends house.
The historic Pumpkin House in Twillingate in the perfect setting for “spooky season”. I felt like I was transported back in time to a different life as I strolled the dark rural road in the rain with an antique candlelight lantern.
I spent the last bit of time caring for chickens at Olde House Shows in Twillingate NL. I was grateful to dine on these fresh delicious brown freshly laid hen eggs from the coop for brunch.

Root Cellars were traditionally used (and are still used) in rural NL Canada to store root vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, beets and turnips. The cellars use the natural cooling, humidifying and insulating properties of the ground to store food. Many old root cellars can be found scattered across the rugged landscape of Twillingate.

My coastal adventures in Newfoundland and Labrador took me back to Twillingate this month. In fact, I Iove it there so much I decided to call it home! So excited to share my new life in “Twilly” with you all.
This bunkie by the sea in Twillingate caught my eye as I roamed nearby on the beach searching for sea glass and driftwood. Weathered and worn by the salty North Atlantic Ocean.

The Lupinfield Cottage is another stunning historic airbnb owned by designer Charlie Fendley. The charming vacation rental has been uniquely restored and is the former homestead of the Bulgin and Earle families. The house was built in the year 1898 and it was a cool experience to sleep in the “Rose Room” and wonder what tales those old walls could tell.
Cod fish has long been the staple food in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. The food fishery opens at specific dates during the season but there are some full time fisher people that rely on the bounty of the North Atlantic ocean to make a living.
Antique shopping is a popular activity in rural communities of NL Canada. I absolutely love stopping into antique shops and yard sales in search of oddities and rare treasures. Do you enjoy antiques?
The rugged island NL coastal landscape is a photographers dream. I could stare at the ocean all day and breathe in the salty air. The object to my right hand side is a crab pot for anyone unfamiliar.
What does one do when visiting The Historic Pumpkin House on a rainy day? Bake a NL pie of course-pumpkin pie for pumpkin season. Designer Charlie even broke out the antique hand held mixer for fun.
